Agent 007 will probably be played by a woman for the first time in the 25th James Bond movie "No Time To Die" and that could stay that way for the movies afterward. In the interview, ex-Bond Pierce Brosnan now revealed what he thinks of it.
In the run-up to the new James Bond film "James Bond 007 - No Time To Die" was discussed intensively on the question of how contemporary the main character is still. In particular, some people suggested that Bond should finally be played by a non-white actor - or by a woman. At least the latter is probably also implemented: In "No Time To Die" there will be a female 007 agent (Lashana Lynch), which takes over after the departure of James Bond (Daniel Craig) whose role in intelligence MI6. However, the focus is still clearly on Daniel Craig's figure.
Whether in the long run, a woman will take over the lead role of Craig is not clear. Pierce Brosnan, who portrayed Bond between 1995 and 2002 in four films, now spoke for the first time to the female bond. He would very much welcome that - but does not believe in the present framework to implement the idea.
"I think we've seen men in that role for 40 years now," Brosnan said at the Deauville Film Festival in Normandy. "Clear the place, boys, and put a woman there. I think that would be invigorating, that would be exciting. "Brosnan made it clear, however, that he does not expect such a development from the current producers in the series:" I think that will not work with the Broccolis. That will not happen as long as they keep the helm in their hands. "Broccolis is the name given to Bros Broccoli and her half-brother Michael G. Wilson, who in 1995 took over the producer role of Barbara's father and original Bond producer Albert R. Broccoli and they still hold today.
Brosnan also welcomed a modernization of the Bond figure in terms of changing gender roles and issues of sexism: "The #Metoo movement was relevant and important and urgently needed in our society, so you have to address that as well."

At the premiere of his new movie "Knives Out" at the Toronto Film Festival, Daniel Craig also declared before his most recent Bond appearance that he could imagine a woman as his successor. When asked about the topic, he replied: "Yes, of course" - and immediately had the right candidate ready, namely "Knives Out" colleague Jamie Lee Curtis:
Brosnan's pessimistic assessment of the invariable line of the Broccolis meanwhile is supported, inter alia, by statements Barbara Broccolis itself. And since she and her half-brother seem to have the last word over all the big creative decisions (and it does not look like a generation change in the producer dynasty right now), having a female Bond as the main character may take a while.
"No Time To Die", the 25th official "Bond" part, is scheduled for release on April 2, 2020.
